NYCkayaker FLEES SCENE Fw: Tanker collision

Actually it's a little funny you refer to "stealth qualities". Back in my Hudson days, both kayaking & sailing, there was a certain kind of ship I used to be particularly concerned about at night, and I actually called them "stealth tankers". Tankers tend to be painted black & dimly lit & I used to spot them not by watching for lights, but by watching for a moving patch of blackness on the shoreline, where the bulk of the tanker was blocking the lights of the city.
You could usually spot that a long time before you could make out red or green bowlights.
