[NYCkayaker] ferry horns redux

i told NYT about the "censorship" n the battery park blog and asked
anyone i know who tried to post there but was scuttled to contact him.
i dont think anyone did but it was over the weekend for the most
part.
unfortunately my take-away from much of this is that the prevailing
attitude amongst land-lubbers is "we'll pay attention after an
accident happens but until then why worry?". i told them its not
kayakers v ferries or waterfron residents, its a safety issue for all
vessel operators and passengers including ferry riders and tug
captains.
that didnt get much air time.

keep sending me (back-channel) the time, date, location, direction,
and video if you have it, and name of boats flouting audible signal
regulations, and i'll keep sending it to the cg.

I think Wolfgang just needs to get it through his entitled skull that rules are rules, no means no (especially when both the CG and the ferry company are the ones saying no), and he might as well give up because there wasn't a battle to fight in the first place (as he was probably told a hundred times in the comments he deleted). I totally agree with you - he can't get used to it, he should just move.

Makes no mention of the censorship, that may have been too much complication for a column that has to stay focused and keep to a certain number of words, but I think it's a very good take on the basic story that started the whole flap.
