A message from Bill Knight:
Hello NYC Water Trail Association,

I am writing to ask that you kindly to help get as many residents of NYC
Council District 19 to
come out and vote for 3 projects that, if they get enough votes, we believe
will improve the
NYC Water Trail for everyone!

To do this you may wish to consider using all your NYC Water Trail
resources (association list-
serves, websites, blogs, calendars, Twitter, Facebook, members, friends and
family, etc. etc.)?

Three Launch Site Projects

The 3 launch site projects (for canoes, kayaks and small boats) are
proposed for:
1
MacNeil Park
near College Point: needs development
2
Little Bay
near Fort Totten: needs completion
3
Parson’s Beach
Little Neck Bay, Douglaston: public access to sandy beach needs
re-opening up (garbage removal and re-planting)

Draft copies of 3 Project Proposals are attached (awaiting final comments
and detailed cost
estimates from NYC Parks Department) for your information and comments.

Who can vote? It’s very inclusive:

Residents (aged 16 and above) of NYC District 19: including College Point,
Whitestone,
Auburndale, North Flushing, Bayside, Bay Terrace, Little Neck, Douglaston,
Fort Totten
(see ‘19th Council Map’ and ‘Acceptable IDs for Voter Eligibility’, below)

So, hopefully, if, with NYC Water Trail help, we can reach out to paddlers
of all sorts, in and
around New York City and get them to reach out, in turn, to all their
friends and relatives
resident (but not necessarily paddlers themselves) in NYC District 19 to
come out and vote….we
will, maybe, gain a democratic advantage over other well organized groups
supporting other
projects!

Who’s Funding This?

One million dollars of NYC Budget Discretionary Funds are available,
through Council Member District 19
Dan Halloran’s Office as part of the NYC Participatory Budgeting Program:
www.pbnyc.org

What’s The Voting Process?

Two project Expos will be held on March 19th and 21st, see invitation from
Dan Halloran, below.
Voting will take place 1st – 7th April, 2013, in various locations (yet to
be announced).

We shall be most grateful for any assistance you can give us in getting the
word, and then the
voters out, to get these 3 launch site projects funded.
